Game fairness and security on PokerStars

How do we keep games fair?

Our systems and processes are designed to prevent unfair advantages and ensure a fair experience for all players.

We take game integrity seriously.

How does the card shuffling work on PokerStars?

Our software uses a verified random number generator (RNG).

  • A random shuffle is produced before each hand
  • The shuffle does not favour any player
  • The deck is fixed after shuffling
  • The dealing order cannot be changed

The shuffle process is certified by Gaming Laboratories International (GLI), an independent testing authority, and meets industry standards.

What type of shuffle is used in PokerStars poker games?

We use a static shuffle, similar to real-life poker.

  • The deck is shuffled once before the hand
  • Cards are not reshuffled during play
  • Card order is predetermined after the shuffle
  • Outcomes are independent of player actions

As a result, outcomes such as “action flops” or biased cards cannot be generated.

Can anyone see hole cards during a hand?

No.

  • Hole cards are not accessible during a hand
  • Data is only recorded and stored after the hand is complete
  • Information is used for fraud and collusion investigations

Staff can only access this information after the hand ends.

About third-party software

Some programs claim to reveal other players’ cards. These claims are not supported by our investigations.

However, malicious software on your device could compromise your security. If you are concerned, consult a computer security professional.

Do you use bots or house players on PokerStars?

No.

  • You only play against other real players
  • We do not use bots or house players (shills)

Additional safeguards:

  • Employees and contractors cannot play
  • Their close relatives are also restricted
  • Former employees are restricted from playing for a period after leaving
