The numbers are in for the EPT Malta Main Event, with this triumphant return to the charming Mediterranean island boasting a prize pool of more than €3.5 million.

It comes from 898 entries (including 258 re-entries) and will pay its winner a €760,000 top prize.

In terms of entries, it is the biggest of four EPT Malta Main Events, although previous iterations in 2015 and 2016 were freezeouts.

The top 135 finishers will be paid, with a min-cash set at €8,400. The bubble is likely to burst late on Day 2. The tournament will play to a winner on Sunday.

NATIONALITIES

As before, Italy is the most represented country in the Main Event, with 90 players (or 14.1% of the total field). Malta is only a short distance from the southern tip of Italy’s boot, with the island a popular destination for Italians–both for vacation and to play poker.

The island’s location in the heart of the Mediterranean is reflected in a characteristically diverse player pool, which features representatives from 63 nations. France (71 players or 11.1% of field), Spain (42 or 6.6%), Germany (39 or 6.1%), and the United Kingdom (39 or 6.1%) complete the top five.

For reference, the October 2016 EPT Malta Main Event featured 468 unique players from 54 countries. The top five nations at that time were Italy (44), the UK (42), France (38), Poland (33), and Russia (32).
